In meteorology, equatorial Kelvin wave refers to an eastward-travelling wave in the atmosphere or ocean that is trapped near the equator, where the change of sign of the Coriolis effect keeps it confined. This meaning comes from Matsuno (1966) in Journal of the Meteorological Society of Japan. Ser. II.[1]
