In art history, literati painting refers to painting by Chinese scholar-officials who valued personal expression, calligraphic brushwork and learning over professional likeness. This meaning comes from Bush (1971) in The Chinese literati on painting; Su Shih (1037-1101) to Tung Chʻi-chʻang.[1]
