statistical downscaling calibrated between observed large-scale predictors and observed local variables, then applied to model predictors assumed to be simulated well.

In climate modelling, perfect prognosis downscaling refers to statistical downscaling calibrated between observed large-scale predictors and observed local variables, then applied to model predictors assumed to be simulated well. This meaning comes from Maraun (2010) in Reviews of Geophysics.[1]
