Retrieving items to fill an order

In warehousing order picking is the process of retrieving stored items from their locations to assemble customer orders, typically the most labour-intensive and costly activity in a distribution centre. De Koster, Le-Duc, and Roodbergen's review organises the layout, storage, routing, and batching choices that govern picking efficiency. The referent is a materials-handling operation, sharing only the word with defeating a lock.[1]
