Economics

Income held back from consumption

In economics saving is the part of income a household or economy does not spend on consumption, the residual that becomes available to finance investment. Keynes's The general theory of employment, interest, and money made saving a linchpin of macroeconomics, tying it to income through the consumption function and setting it equal to investment in equilibrium. The referent is a flow of deferred consumption measured in money per period, with nothing in common with a pitcher closing out a win beyond the word.[1]
