In software engineering, social debt refers to the added cost a software project carries because of suboptimal organizational and social structures, such as poor communication or misaligned teams. This meaning comes from Tamburri (2013) in 2013 6th International Workshop on Cooperative and Human Aspects of Software Engineering (CHASE).[1]
