In atomic, molecular and optical physics, coherent population trapping refers to the trapping of atoms in a coherent superposition of two lower levels that no longer absorbs two-frequency light, producing a dark resonance in fluorescence. This meaning comes from Alzetta (1976) in Il Nuovo Cimento B Series 11.[1]
