In inorganic chemistry, effective bond order refers to a bond order derived from the occupations of bonding and antibonding natural orbitals in multiconfigurational wave functions, used to compare very high metal-metal bond multiplicities. This meaning comes from Roos (2007) in Angewandte Chemie International Edition.[1]
