One name. One construct. A landmark on the map.

Hold this as a prompt, not a verdict. Two constructs sitting close in meaning is a reason to read them side by side and decide for yourself whether they are one idea under two names. It is not proof that they are. Compare the meanings in the Collider.
A single standalone construct; nearby constructs are located against it in the Collider. Tap a field for its definition, unit, and measures.
In queueing theory, a server is the resource that processes customers waiting in a queue: in a model such as the single-server M/M/1 queue, arrivals wait in line and are served one at a time at some service rate, and a system may have one server or several in parallel. Kendall's Stochastic Processes Occurring in the Theory of Queues introduced the notation and the imbedded-Markov-chain analysis by which such systems, including the number of their servers, are described. The referent is an abstract service station in a mathematical model of waiting lines, counted and parameterised, not a physical computer, a tennis player, or a person waiting tables.[1]
