Population genetics

A population formed by the mixing of previously separated ancestries

In population genetics admixture is the interbreeding of two or more previously separated populations, so that an individual's genome is a mosaic of segments inherited from distinct ancestral sources. Hartl and Clark's Principles of population genetics treats how such mixing reshapes allele frequencies, and Alexander, Novembre, and Lange's model-based method estimates each individual's ancestry proportions from genome-wide markers. The referent is the compositional history of a gene pool (the fractions of ancestry an individual or population carries), a wholly different construct from a chemical dosed into concrete, joined only by the idea of mixing.[1][2]

Recovery means
Not applicable
Measured by
Estimated from genome-wide markers as ancestry proportions, for example by model-based clustering of individual genotypes
