In reader-response theory, identity theme refers to the idea, from Holland, that each reader re-creates a text in terms of a personal identity theme, so interpretations express the reader's own psychological style. This meaning comes from Holland (1975) in PMLA/Publications of the Modern Language Association of America.[1]
