How to read this

Every construct on the map is compared with every other by the meaning of its definitions, and the closest one is surfaced here. The nearest construct to meditation is mindfulness.

Hold this as a prompt, not a verdict. Two constructs sitting close in meaning is a reason to read them side by side and decide for yourself whether they are one idea under two names. It is not proof that they are. Compare the meanings in the Collider.

Clinical and behavioral medicine

A measured intervention for health and attention

In clinical and behavioral medicine, meditation refers to attention-training practices studied and applied for their measurable effects on body and mind. Wallace's Physiological Effects of Transcendental Meditation (1970) recorded reduced oxygen consumption, lower heart rate, and distinctive brain-wave activity during practice, and Kabat-Zinn's mindfulness-based program (1982) turned such practices into a standardized clinical intervention for chronic pain and stress. Here the referent is a health intervention defined by a protocol and evaluated by outcome measures, not an ancient contemplative discipline or a philosopher's written reflection.[1][2]
