How to read this

Every construct on the map is compared with every other by the meaning of its definitions, and the closest one is surfaced here. The nearest construct to inoculation is immunity.

Hold this as a prompt, not a verdict. Two constructs sitting close in meaning is a reason to read them side by side and decide for yourself whether they are one idea under two names. It is not proof that they are. Compare the meanings in the Collider.

Communication and social psychology

Pre-exposure that builds resistance to persuasion

Papageorgis and McGuire's 1961 study in the Journal of Abnormal and Social Psychology showed that exposing people to weakened arguments against a belief, together with refutations, made the belief more resistant to a later strong attack. McGuire's 1964 Inducing Resistance to Persuasion: Some Contemporary Approaches set out the full theory by explicit analogy to biological immunisation. Here inoculation means a communication procedure that strengthens an attitude against future persuasion, a construct about minds and messages rather than an act on the body or a laboratory transfer of microbes.[1][2]
