One name. One construct. A landmark on the map.
● anchor · a standalone construct Nearest construct by meaningprimingcompare the meaningsEvery construct on the map is compared with every other by the meaning of its definitions, and the closest one is surfaced here. The nearest construct to primer is priming.
Hold this as a prompt, not a verdict. Two constructs sitting close in meaning is a reason to read them side by side and decide for yourself whether they are one idea under two names. It is not proof that they are. Compare the meanings in the Collider.
A single standalone construct; nearby constructs are located against it in the Collider. Tap a field for its definition, unit, and measures.
Kleppe, Ohtsuka, Kleppe, Molineux, and Khorana's Studies on polynucleotides (1971) set out repair replication, in which a short synthetic strand bound to a template gives a DNA polymerase the free 3' end it needs to begin copying, the founding description of a primer's role. Mullis and Faloona's Specific synthesis of DNA in vitro via a polymerase-catalyzed chain reaction (1987) made the primer central to the polymerase chain reaction, where two primers flank a target and are extended in repeated cycles to amplify it. Here a primer is a short nucleic-acid strand, a few dozen bases long, that initiates copying of a genetic template, and it bears no relation to a coat of paint or a children's schoolbook.[1][2]
