How to read this

Every construct on the map is compared with every other by the meaning of its definitions, and the closest one is surfaced here. The nearest construct to spindle is division.

Hold this as a prompt, not a verdict. Two constructs sitting close in meaning is a reason to read them side by side and decide for yourself whether they are one idea under two names. It is not proof that they are. Compare the meanings in the Collider.

Neuroscience

a short burst of waxing and waning brain waves, roughly 11 to 16 cycles per second, during light sleep.

Loomis, Harvey, and Hobart first described the sleep spindle in 1935 in Potential rhythms of the cerebral cortex during sleep: a short burst of waxing-and-waning brain waves, roughly 11 to 16 cycles per second, that appears in the electroencephalogram during light non-dreaming sleep. The burst is named for the spindle-like swelling and tapering of its waveform. De Gennaro and Ferrara's 2003 review Sleep spindles: an overview gathers how these bursts arise from looped activity between the thalamus and the cortex and how they relate to sleep stability and memory. This referent is a brief electrical rhythm of the sleeping brain, distinct from a stretch organ in muscle or the fibre scaffold that separates a cell's chromosomes.[1][2]

Unit
One burst of waxing-and-waning waves in the sleep EEG, about half a second to two seconds long
Recovery means
Not applicable
Measured by
Detected in the electroencephalogram and quantified by frequency, duration, amplitude, and how often the bursts occur
