One name. One construct. A landmark on the map.
● anchor · a standalone construct Nearest construct by meaningfabriccompare the meaningsEvery construct on the map is compared with every other by the meaning of its definitions, and the closest one is surfaced here. The nearest construct to thread is fabric.
Hold this as a prompt, not a verdict. Two constructs sitting close in meaning is a reason to read them side by side and decide for yourself whether they are one idea under two names. It is not proof that they are. Compare the meanings in the Collider.

In an operating system, a thread is the smallest sequence of instructions that a scheduler can manage on its own. Silberschatz, Galvin, and Gagne describe it in Operating System Concepts as a basic unit of processor use that holds its own program counter, register set, and stack while sharing the code, data, and open files of the process that owns it. The referent is a run of executable instructions inside a program, and the unit is one schedulable flow of control. It differs from every other meaning because nothing here is spun, written, or cut into metal: the strand is a path of execution, and multithreading means several such paths advancing inside one process at once.[1]
